I had port JIT engine to Alpha Tru64 and GNU/Linux Alpha in the past and I know how it's difficult to understand correctly intrp and JIT engines with only sources as documentation. I had write this document latter while I was porting intrp engine to Darwin (Mac OS X) operating system. In the same time I was writing JIT back-end for PowerPC.

Since kernel 2.2.13, version-info prefixes could be `smp_', `2gig_', `smp2gig_' or none. Only `smp_' is handle by modutils-2.3.9 and modutils-2.1.121 don't handle prefix in version-info at all. For your pleasure RedHat changes this prefix in there 6.1 release :( This patch guest prefix used by genksyms for current kernel by looking for symbol `get_module_symbols'.
The definition of LOCAL_INCLUDE_DIR in gcc/Makefile.in came from $(includedir) which is setup to $(prefix)/include in upper Makefile. This is not correct, it should be $(local_prefix)/include. Change name of this variable to localincludedir.
